A $2.36 million disbursement to Blaine County from Idaho’s Highway Distribution Account exceeded expectations by roughly $1.7 million, offsetting a forecast county road and bridge department fiscal 2026 budget deficit of $1.3 million.
In a phone call with the Express, Blaine County Commission Chair Angenie McCleary said that the county had originally expected about $700,000 to be distributed and budgeted accordingly.
The money in the Highway Distribution Account comes from state fuel taxes, vehicle registration fees and other miscellaneous sources and has to be used for road and bridge projects, according to the Idaho Association of Cities. McCleary said that the account is part of the state’s revenue sharing program.
