Tennessee State has named Dr. Dwayne Tucker its president, the ninth such leader in the university's history.

Tucker had served in an interim capacity since 2024. He replaces Ronald Johnson, who resigned nearly six months after he began his tenure, citing concerns he had with the university’s board (read here ).
Tucker is a TSU alumnus who previously worked as chief executive officer of LEAD Public Schools, a network of public charter schools in the Metro Nashville area. He did not accept a salary as Tennessee State interim president. He also held leadership roles at First Data, Northwest Airlines and Alliance Data.
Tucker has served as both a TSU board trustee and as the chair of the TSU Foundation.
