The two frontrunners in the GOP contest to be the next Alabama lieutenant governor remained close in fundraising in July, with Wes Allen earning a slight edge.

Allen, the current Alabama secretary of state, raised about $139,000 last month, according to his monthly campaign finance report. He ended July with nearly $390,000 in his account. The largest donations were $10,000 from individuals.

Rick Pate, the current commissioner of agriculture and industries, raised $100,536 and ended the month with $347,592. His largest donation was $12,000 from the Alabama Poultry and Egg Association’s political action committee.

Pate is term-limited in his current office, Allen is a first-term secretary of state who previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives.
