LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ex-Louisville police officer Brett Hankison is appealing his 33-month sentence connected to the 2020 raid that resulted in Breonna Taylor’s death.
Hankison’s notice of appeal was filed on Tuesday. Last month, Hankison was sentenced to almost three years in prison and three years of supervised release for violating Taylor’s civil rights.  
The appeal said Hankison, “appeals both the conviction and the sentence imposed in this case.”
The U.S. Department of Justice recommended a one-day sentence and three years of supervised release on Thursday, July 17, saying in a sentencing memo that “there is no need for a prison sentence to protect the public” from Hankison.
