YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyoming – Nearly a year has passed since the Black Diamond Pool in Yellowstone National Park experienced a significant hydrothermal explosion. This event caught the attention of visitors in the area.
The explosion occurred when the shallow hydrothermal system was sealed by minerals transported in the water. These minerals clogged the plumbing system, causing pressure to build up just beneath the surface. As a result, an explosion became inevitable.
Since the 2024 incident, Black Diamond Pool has seen several small eruptions, but none have matched the size of the initial explosion.
