For 14 years, Washington Post reporter Glenn Kessler wrote a regular column that examined the accuracy of the statements and claims that politicians make on a daily basis.

It became one of the most widely read sections of the paper, skewering both political parties and reviving interest in the nuts and bolts of accountability journalism. In the Fact Checker, Kessler would award one to four ‘Pinocchios’ to reflect factual errors, misinformation, and outright lies.

But now the column is over, as Kessler accepted the Post’s buyout offer along with at least 75 of his colleagues, according to City Paper’s count.
