Military police on scene as Commander issues immediate lockdown; casualties reported and all gates closed.
An “active shooter incident” at Fort Stewart, the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River, has resulted in five soldiers being shot. The base confirmed the injuries in a social media post, stating that the shooter was in the area of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team.
The entire post remains under an immediate lockdown, issued by Fort Stewart Commander Colonel William “Gabe” Weaver.
This order extends to the nearby Wright and Evans Army Airfield. All gates into the base are currently closed, and personnel in the lockdown area have been instructed to “stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors.”
