The countdown to the 2026 Winter Games is officially underway.
In six months, the eyes of the world will turn to eight cities across northern Italy at 14 different venues.
From Milan to the majestic mountain region, 90% of the venues already exist or will be temporary.
The Games’ closing ceremony will be held in a 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheater in Verona.
There are 16 Olympic sports and 116 Olympic events for the 2026 Games. New for this Olympic Games is ski mountaineering, called “Ski Mo” for short. In Ski Mo, competitors climb a mountain course and then descend on skis.
Some of the other new events for 2026 include: women’s double luge, women’s large hill ski jumping, mixed gender team skeleton, women and men’s dual mogul.
The 2026 Olympic Winter Games kick off Friday, Feb. 6.
