Rhode Island FC hasn’t duplicated its success this season.

The magic that catapulted the first-year club to the USL Championship final has disappeared. There were clues last year that Rhode Island had something brewing. They were staying in games — reset the draws record with 15 — and were difficult to beat.

That hasn’t been the case this season as RIFC’s scoring drought has lasted all summer. Rhode Island has managed just 14 goals this season, which paces only ahead of Las Vegas Lights FC at 13 tallies. JJ Williams’ return from a calf sprain didn’t spark the offense either after the striker bolstered RIFC’s run last year.
