The political standoff over Texas’s new congressional map reached a new level of intensity Wednesday when a bomb threat forced the temporary evacuation of Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to prevent a legislative quorum. The incident occurred at the Q-Center Hotel and Convention Complex at 1405 N. 5th Ave. in St. Charles, Illinois, where more than 50 House Democrats have been staying since Sunday to block a vote on the redistricting bill.

According to the St. Charles Police Department, first responders arrived at the scene around 7:15 a.m. and conducted a thorough search, but no device was found.
