FLUSHING, New York (WKBN) -- Cleveland Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams lost a bid for a no-hitter in the ninth inning in a 4-1 win over the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon.
New York's Juan Soto broke up the no-hit bid with a solo home run with one out in the ninth inning.
Cleveland was seeking its first no-hitter since May 15, 1981, when Len Barker tossed a perfect game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Williams piled up six strikeouts, allowing just four walks, one run on one hit. He tossed 126 pitches on the day.
Cleveland's David Fry hit a solo home run in the second inning, while Angel Martinez delivered a two-run homer in the third, increasing the lead to 3-0.
Gabriel Arias added an RBI triple in the sixth for the Guardians.
