ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — Many likely voters feel the housing crunch, and a recent survey shows that their views could shape New York's elections in 2026. According to a new poll conducted by Data for Progress and Housing Justice for All, voters statewide are likelier to support candidates whose policies protect tenants and build affordable housing.

“Tenants are half the state and a majority in every major city," said Cea Weaver, the director of Housing Justice for All and the NYS Tenant Bloc. "We’re ready to elect candidates who give us something real to vote for.”

The poll, surveying 1,067 likely New York voters from July 1 to July 11, found that 14% of voters have moved to a different neighborhood or city in search of cheaper housing. In the Mid-Hudson region, 23% of people relocated,
