Manchester aldermen have approved a two-phase funding package that will keep the homeless shelter at 39 Beech St. open through the winter months and then open a 20-bed shelter for older homeless people who are considered medically fragile.

The new shelter, which would also have capacity as a winter warming center, would open April 1 with funding for one year.

The potential location of the new shelter has been kept under wraps by officials thus far, but Alderman Dan O’Neil let slip a clue of the city’s plans by mistake Tuesday night, when the board approved the funding package.
