US President Donald Trump is said to be gearing up for a possible face-to-face showdown with Russian leader Vladimir Putin as early as next week, following “highly productive” talks between US envoy Steve Witkoff and a top Kremlin chief in Moscow, according to reports initially published in the New York Times. ‌

Trump, who’s been pushing hard for a Ukraine ceasefire, hailed the three-hour meeting as having made “great progress” on his own social media site Truth Social, and said that he had briefed European allies including Prime Minister Keir Starmer. ‌
