HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford Public Library 's downtown branch is moving into the second phase of a major renovation project aimed at transforming the space into a modern, community-centered hub.

“To catch up with the new times, we got a new library,” Henri Mathieu of Hartford said.

Library leaders have adopted the theme “Restore, renew, reimagine,” as part of the ongoing makeover, according to Bridget Quinn, president and CEO of the Hartford Public Library.

The library suffered significant damage in recent years when a combination of a failed HVAC system and a harsh winter caused flooding on the first, second, and third floors. Instead of simply repairing the space, Quinn said the team saw an opportunity to make lasting improvements.
