TELL CITY, Ind. (WFIE) - Scenic Lincoln Way, a non-profit organization in Perry County, will be debuting the “Abraham” later this week in Tell City.

Organizers say the Abraham is an authentic flatboat, “the kind of boat the pioneers used to ‘go West.’”

The nonprofit says their flatboat is named in honor of Abraham Lincoln and was built for the purpose of doing the 200-year reenactment trip that Lincoln made as a teenager.

Officials say in 1828, Lincoln and his friend Allen Gentry were hired by Allen’s father, James Gentry, to take the area produce from Spencer County to New Orleans.

Organizers are planning that reenactment trip to happen two centuries later in 2028.
