ARLINGTON -- The Yankees averted a crisis Wednesday -- or at least postponed one -- thanks to a big swing by Paul Goldschmidt , three slick double plays and, finally, a bullpen that didn’t break.

Goldschmidt’s pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s 3-2 win over the Rangers was just enough to snap the Yankees’ five-game losing streak and keep them ahead of the Rangers and Guardians at third place in the American League Wild Card standings .

After blowing late leads in each of the first two games of the series at Globe Life Field, the Yankees’ relievers held the Rangers scoreless for the final four innings Wednesday.
