SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — On Aug. 14, SAISD begins school for the 2025-2026 year. This Friday, Aug. 8, marks the start of tax-free weekend in Texas, preparing for the upcoming year.

During the weekend, residents can buy most clothing, shoes, school supplies and backpacks free of sales taxes. Qualifying items can be purchased tax-free from a Texas store or from an online or catalog seller that operates in Texas.

For an item to be tax-free, it has to be less than $99.99, or else it will not be exempt from the tax.

"Say you buy a pair of shoes that are, you know $120, even though it says on the list and is exemptible, because it's over the hundred-dollar limit, then it would be taxed," said Rease Dickey, Better Business Bureau Social Media Manager.
