The Huntsville community is mourning the tragic loss of a 13-year-old student at Mountain Gap Middle School after he was killed Tuesday afternoon while riding his bicycle.

Kallel “Kal” Fox, an eighth grader, was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Bailey Cove Road and Green Mountain Road around 3:30 p.m.

The child was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with Huntsville police.

The Traffic Homicide Unit responded to investigate the incident.

Mountain Gap Middle School principal Heather Bardwell said counselors would be made available to those in need.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who are grieving,” Bardwell stated.
