(NewsNation) — A truck driver who was at the Fort Stewart Army base at the time of the shooting described the scene as "really scary and alarming."

Active-duty soldier Quornelius Radford, 28, has been identified as the shooter. He shot five of his colleagues, all of whom are in a stable condition.

Radford used a personal handgun before he was tackled and subdued by other soldiers and taken into custody.

Ron Peavey, a truck driver who was on lockdown at the base in Georgia, joined "Elizabeth Vargas Reports" to discuss his experience, which he thought may have been a nuclear war between Russia and the U.S.

"It was really scary and alarming. I initially thought, probably for the first half-hour, almost, that we were at war," Peavey said of the scene.
