TRAVELERS REST, S.C. —

The Travelers Rest high school football team is hoping to take a step forward this fall in head coach Chris Goodman's second season leading the team.

"They say it takes three years to build a culture," Goodman said. "We've been focusing on sense of urgency, put this gold standard forward about how to act and how to be. Not that those things weren't mentioned last year, but they're starting to stick."

The Devildogs won their season opener last August but ended the season on an 8-game losing streak. Goodman brought in 5 new coaches this offseason, including a new offensive and defensive coordinator to help the team improve.
