LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Families are filling the stores in preparation for the start of school and are likely spending hundreds of dollars on back-to-school shopping.

According to data from the National Retail Federation (NFR), parents of elementary and high school students are spending around $850 this back-to-school season.

This includes electronics, shoes, clothes and school supplies.

Janie Lee, great-grandmother to nine, was out shopping for some of her great-grandchildren today. The back-to-school prices have families like Lee’s trying to find savings whenever they can.

“Just the way times are right now, you just got to deal with it and find the best savings that you can,” Lee said.
