In an era where it seems every major movie is either a sequel, remake, or a superhero film, Kazy Tauganis said now is the time for small movie makers to shine.

"The opportunity for independent film makers to get their projects seen has been greatly increased. Now is the time to strike."

Tauganis will give that chance to dozens of film makers this weekend as he hosts the 2nd Newark Independent Film Festival at the new Chapel Street Players theatre from August 14-16.

The University of Delaware alum has appeared in several television shows and movies, including "Law & Order: SVU", "Blue Bloods", and "American Rust", and movies including "The Equalizer 2", "John Wick", and "Empire Gypsy".
