CHEYENNE — President Donald Trump last week nominated state Sen. Darin Smith, R-Cheyenne, to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming.

Smith was elected to his seat in the state Senate in 2024 after an endorsement from Trump. His top three legislative priorities while campaigning were to reduce property taxes, protect Wyoming’s industries — especially coal — from federal overreach, and enhance parental rights and school choice.

As a politician, Smith’s platforms also include: supporting anti-abortion efforts: prohibiting transgender women from women’s bathrooms and women’s sports; ending diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; and repealing gun-free zones.

Currently, he represents Senate District 6, which includes parts of Laramie and Platte counties.
