FORT WORTH, Texas — Greater Saint Stephen First Church currently sits in a diverse, urban congressional district represented by U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, a Democrat who grew up in Fort Worth.
But if state lawmakers approve a new map , the congregation on the southeast side of the city could shift to a district that stretches almost to Abilene.
Veasey and U.S. Senate Candidate Colin Allred hosted a town hall on the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act at Greater Saint Stephen.
“When you draw lines like this, you remove public servants who care about their people,” Allred told the crowd.
The event was meant to energize voters, some of whom feel defeated.
