HOUGHTON COOUNTY — Despite defeating two other millage increases, voters in Houghton County said yes to an elder nutrition millage proposed by Copper Shores Community Health Foundation. The revenue generation would support and expand the Meals on Wheels program in the county. With 8,288 votes cast, the proposal passed 4,336 to 3,871.

On Wednesday afternoon, Copper Shores CEO Kevin Store issued the following statement on behalf of the Houghton County Elder Nutrition Committee:

“Copper Shores Community Health Foundation and the Houghton County Elder Nutrition Committee are pleased to announce the passage of the Elder Nutrition Millage for Houghton County. This is a landmark initiative that will significantly enhance elder nutrition for Houghton County residents, particularly in rural areas
