STRATFORD, Conn. — Crews in Stratford are entering the second day searching for a 6-year-old who fell into the Housatonic River.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon at the Birdseye Boat Ramp in Stratford, officials said. The boy fell into the river while walking on the ramp. An employee with United Illuminating tried to save the boy by jumping into the river, but the child has not been found at this time, officials said.

A Coast Guard cutter and the Stratford Fire Marine Unit were out searching the water overnight. Thursday morning, more emergency crews are regrouping at the boat ramp as they prepare to restart their full-scale search once the sun rises.
