Lights, camera, action in Iowa City.

The streets of Iowa City’s historic northside neighborhood and other sites are transforming into a film set with rolling cameras and costumed actors, as production ramps up for the historical drama, “Death of a Brewer.”

Set in the gritty underbelly of 1880s Iowa City, "Death of a Brewer" tells the stories of immigrants from Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Ireland. The based on a true story film also depicts Iowa City's thriving breweries 40 years before prohibition.

“Death of a Brewer” is based on the historical-fiction novel “Beer Money: A Tale of the Iowa City Beer Mafia,” by Coralville author S.C. (Steve) Sherman . The film is adapted and directed by Mokotsi Rukundo, and produced by third-generation owner of John's Grocery, Doug Alberhasky.
