CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- State leaders agree a fix is needed to address the continued backlogs at North Carolina DMVs. But at the same time, there’s disagreement on what the solution should be.
On Monday, State Auditor Dave Boliek released a report that proposed several changes, including a recommendation to separate the DMV from the Department of Transportation.
“We’d ask that policymakers consider establishing the DMV as an autonomous agency or authority with direct control over its budget,” he told reporters.
In an interview with Queen City News on Wednesday, DMV officials acknowledged the backlog continues to be a problem.
