I’m sure we’d all like to bury the recent series against the Marlins in the deepest recesses of our subconscious, the newly assembled bullpen collapsing spectacularly in the walk-off loss in the opener leading to a team-wide capitulation for the rest of the series. However, there were moments from that gut-punch of a 13-12 loss that are worth revisiting, none more so than Anthony Volpe’s game tying home run to lead off the seventh inning.
We join Volpe in the top of the eighth with the hard-throwing righty Lake Bachar on in relief. Volpe’s already in the midst of a decent game with a pair of singles in his previous two at-bats, and in general he has looked like a hitter who’s far more comfortable with what he’s trying to accomplish at the plate of late.
