A 15-year-old boy is missing and a driver is dead after a car crashed into an aqueduct along Interstate 5 in Patterson on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to the crash around 6:30 a.m. on northbound I-5 just north of Sperry Avenue.

CHP officials said a Nissan SUV, which was hauling a utility trailer, was traveling in the fast lane when it turned "in an unsafe manner" to the right, entering the slow lane before leaving the shoulder. The SUV went down a steep embankment and crashed through two sets of barbed-wire fencing before entering the California Aqueduct.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office Dive Team responded to help recover the SUV from the water, CHP said.
