The city of Brownsville has secured nearly $28 million to modernize traffic signals, improve road safety and enhance transportation efficiency, according to an announcement from the city Wednesday.
The $27.8 million in funding was approved by the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization last month. The money will pay for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects, which Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. said will “help improve the efficiency and reliability of our traffic management system.”
