Missourians shopping for health insurance in 2026 could see premium increases and shifting coverage options, as the state’s Department of Commerce and Insurance begins reviewing proposed rates for individual and small group plans.

State Insurance Director Angela Nelson told Missourinet, unfortunately she does not have great news for Missourians.

“We are seeing an average change in rates for the individual market,” said Nelson. “For the individual markets, average premiums are going to range between $579 and $898 and again, that’s what we call per member per month average premium.

For small businesses, monthly premiums could range from about $716 to $840 per employee.”

Nelson said there are several contributing factors including providers are pressing for increased reimbursement rates.
