Summer vacation officially ends Thursday for thousands of families across the Bay Area as the new school year begins.
The South Bay’s largest school district, San Jose Unified is seeing some changes, including the debut of transitional kindergarten opening to all 4-year-olds.
For older students, more schools are banning or restricting cellphones during the school day. Districts technically have until next school year to implement policies, but many are rolling out or already rolled out polices this year.
