The Michigan Wolverines have been preparing all offseason for an opportunity to get back to the top of college football, missing the College Football Playoff for the first time in four seasons last fall.

With players and coaches departing for the NFL, head coach Sherrone Moore had to completely refurbish both sides of the football. While he had the offense covered being the former offensive coordinator, he needed to rely on an experienced defensive coordinator that could develop his players into future NFL stars.

The man tasked for the job was Wink Martindale.
