KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — As children across Tennessee prepare to go back to school, one mother in Colonial Heights finds herself at a crossroads as she waits to receive a voucher to send her daughter to school.

Amanda Adams applied for a voucher through Tennessee's Education Freedom Scholarship, which provides funding to send children to private schools.

Adams said she applied for the voucher after her daughter wanted to switch from public to private school.

"So my daughter came to me and said, 'I think I'm ready to switch schools, I want to switch schools this year,'" Adams said. "And it shocked me, but I feel like that was the best decision for her."

Adams' daughter will be starting at Tri-Cities Christian Academy with a tuition of nearly $8,000 a year.
