US-based Malawian footballer Temwa Chawinga has been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or Féminin 2025, following a stellar season in the United States with Kansas City Current.

The nomination comes after Temwa made history in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), where she clinched the Golden Boot with 20 goals and was also crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP) in her debut season.

Notably, her elder sister Tabitha Chawinga, who was nominated last year, is absent from this year’s shortlist.

Temwa’s nomination marks a significant milestone for Malawian football, as she becomes one of the few African women to be recognized on such a global stage.

The Ballon d’Or awards ceremony is scheduled to take place later this year in France.
