A raccoon tested positive after coming in contact with three dogs in Gastonia.

Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement received a call Sunday regarding a raccoon that appeared sick in the 100 block of Jeran Lane in Gastonia.

The raccoon was impounded and sent to the N.C. Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh on Monday. The official laboratory results were received on Tuesday afternoon and indicated that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.

Enforcement Specialist conducted a neighborhood canvass to notify residents of the positive rabies results and verify rabies vaccinations for family pets in the area.
