Five people have died and 24 others have been injured after a suspension bridge snapped in China.

The incident took place in China’s northwestern region of Xinjiang at a tourist location on Wednesday, Aug. 6, according to the Associated Press and local media outlets Global Times and Xinhua .

Twenty-nine people were on the bridge at 6:18 p.m. on Wednesday when the cables snapped in Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinhua reported.
