FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WFLA) — A German shepherd named Bella was reunited with her family, whom she hadn't seen in five years, after she was rescued from a canal Tuesday.

Video from the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue shows responders rescuing Bella from the canal by picking her up and placing her on the grass. They then took her back to the firehouse, where she was fed.

At the station, they were able to track down her owners in St. Cloud through her chip.

The family told reporters that they had adopted Bella in 2018 but were forced to give her away when their house burned down and they moved into a hotel.

They tried to locate their dog but were unable to do so before receiving a call from the Fort Lauderdale Police, informing them that Bella had been rescued.
