ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - An Anderson County school board member was arrested on charges of child sex crimes, deputies say.

48-year-old Gregg Hayden was arrested and charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, and second degree attempted criminal sexual conduct with a child.

Deputies said on July 30, Hayden was picking up a child, who he knew through a local church mentorship program, to play basketball. Witnesses reported signs of sexual abuse unfolding in Hayden's truck, according to the sheriff's office.

Hayden was appointed to the Anderson School District One board of trustees in April 2025. He also worked for Anderson School District 5 as a school safety and security supervisor.

School District 5 said he resigned from his position Wednesday, August 5.
