Growing up watching Black television classics like “Family Matters” and “Fresh Prince,” I sometimes wondered how it would be to sit in a live studio audience.
Watching the Blumenthal Arts production of “Immediate Family” at Booth Playhouse may be as close as I’ll ever get. And I love that.
About the Show
“Immediate Family” differs from other shows we’ve previewed. While most bring their own sets, costumes and casts, this production is home-grown in North Carolina. Blumenthal Arts produced the show from scratch, including a new set created by Majestic Scenic, a Winston-Salem-based scenic arts fabrication shop.
“It’s rare for us to actually produce something, and we’ve never produced at this high a level,” Blumenthal’s president and CEO, Tom Gabbard, said at a media briefing.
