KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Knox County Property Assessor William Phillip Ballard was indicted for official misconduct Wednesday, court documents showed.

The Grand Jury found that Ballard had intentionally or knowingly received a benefit not authorized by law, documents showed. The alleged misconduct happened between September 1, 2024, and January 31, 2025.

Ballard served as property assessor from 2008 to 2016. He was reelected in 2024 for a term ending August 1, 2028. According to the county's website, he is a lifelong resident of the Carter community.
