Republican legislative leaders were noncommittal on moving forward with an unusual mid-decade redrawing of Indiana's congressional district boundaries following a Statehouse meeting Thursday with Republican Vice President J.D. Vance.

Vance and Republican President Donald Trump are openly pushing Republican-led states to craft new districts that potentially favor Republican congressional candidates, instead of waiting until 2031 to redistrict after the next U.S. Census, in the hope of preserving the slim GOP majority in the U.S. House.

The vice president arrived at the Statehouse around 9:30 a.m. Region time and walked through a series of underground tunnels to reach the office of Republican Gov. Mike Braun.
