American Eagle’s “great jeans” advertising campaign with Sydney Sweeney has been at the center of the latest political firestorm online, drawing accusations of racial undertones in its messaging.
Sweeney, who rose to fame for her starring roles in HBO’s “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” is the star of the clothing retailer’s fall campaign, with the tagline, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
The whole purpose of the ad is to be a play on words, “Great genes.
Instead, she has taken a major hit from many who have accused American Eagle of playing to a white supremacist notion that the human race could be improved by breeding out less desirable traits.
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My genes are
