Two Pennsylvania State Troopers were shot in Thompson on Aug. 7, 2025. Police and emergency crews remained at the scene at 3 p.m.

Pennsylvania state police are investigating after two troopers were shot while responding to a call in northeast Susquehanna County on Aug. 7, officials said.

Both troopers were transported to local hospitals, state police said in a statement on social media. The public was urged to avoid the area where the incident occurred near Route 171, about five miles north of Thompson, Pennsylvania.

"An update on their conditions will be provided later. The scene remains very active and information on the suspect will be released at a later time," police said in the release.

U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan said on social media he was “relieved to hear the troopers involved in today’s incident in Thompson Township are expected to be in stable condition.”

Gov. Josh Shapiro acknowledged the incident at an event in Bucks County. He said he and his wife were praying for the troopers, and that he had been in contact with Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris.

"It is an active situation and, at the conclusion of this event, I plan to head there myself," Shapiro told reporters. "And I just ask all of you to join us in prayer for these brave state troopers."
