Texas conservative Stephen Lawrence berated Republican Texas state senators for moving further to gerrymander the state on behalf of President Donald Trump.

"I am a lawyer, I'm a lifetime conservative," Lawrence testified during a Thursday hearing on redistricting. "I have always agreed with the principles of the Republican Party and I've never voted against a Republican, sorry, I've never voted for a Democrat on a state or national basis."

"I'm here against the bill," he continued. "You're here because the president wants five more seats. And instead of saying, come and take it, you said, here we go. That is not representative democracy. That's tyranny."

Lawrence revealed that he was "happy the Democrats left the state" to deny Republicans the ability to approve the new congressional map.

"At least they're defending the rule of law," he remarked before quoting the Bible. "So you're voting against the Lord, you're voting against democracy, and voting against the rule of law."
