YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- Troopers with the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the city police department have wrapped up a traffic safety initiative.

A news release from the patrol said the effort ran from June 19 to Aug. 1 and resulted in a 50 percent reduction in crashes on Interstate 680.

The release said that during that time period, 483 vehicles were stopped and 246 citations were issued.

Four people were arrested on felony drug offenses, and an additional 20 were charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the release said.

Those arrested who needed help were offered assistance for substance abuse treatment through Meridian Health Services, the release said.
