The Little Rock School District launched a fleet of electric school buses at a ribbon-cutting event on Thursday to provide greener, healthier and more cost-effective transportation for handicapped and disabled students.

The 25 buses were built by the Georgia-based Blue Bird Corporation, one of the largest school bus makers in the business, through a $9 million grant LRSD won from the Environmental Protection Agency. Those buses are ready in time for Monday, students’ first day back in school after summer break.
