Dricus Du Plessis has been one of those champions who came out of nowhere and shocked everyone with back-to-back standout performances. From Israel Adesanya to Robert Whittaker, DDP has taken down some of the best in the game. Now, as he gets ready to face Khamzat Chimaev , he’s also thinking ahead, planning to move up a weight class, but only after clearing out the middleweight division.

Plessis isn’t in a rush to move up a weight class just yet. At 31, he knows he has time and wants to fully handle his business in the middleweight division first. His goal is to defend the title at least three times before even thinking about a move. With new names climbing the ranks, he feels the division is finally coming back to life, making it the right time to stay and prove himself.
